The construction of Spanish late Gothic vaults in the European context. Innovation and knowledge transfer.

 

   "The central idea of the project was the verification of the three-dimensional tracing method used in late Gothic vaults, in order to detect foreign procedures. The written sources tell us about different methods in Spain and Central Europe, and we also know that they were not shared outside the trade, nor can they be detected by simple visual inspection of the vault. Thus, the use of foreign methods may be an indication of contact between masters, i.e., technical transfer of knowledge. This implies a research work from written sources and from construction surveys, and also a cataloguing work, organizing a scheme that makes it possible to gather the real examples in a coherent and adequate database for the research work."
